IWLA celebrates International Women’s Day 2025

IWLA has been active at multiple events to represent the interests of our members and contribute towards the discussion on how to #AccelerateAction on matters impacting on women in the legal professions in Ireland.

“As women achieve power, the barriers will fall. As society sees what women can do, as women see what women can do, there will be more women out there doing things, and we’ll all be better off for it.” – Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Law Society of Ireland Panel Event

IWLA was ably represented at the Law Society of Ireland International Women’s Day event by both IWLA Data Protection Officer Demilade Adeniran and long-serving IWLA committee member and Law Society Council Member Fiona McNulty, with Chief State Solicitor Maria Browne delivered the keynote address. A wonderful collegiate evening was enjoyed while also taking note of the Law Society’s valuable research on matters relating to women in law in Ireland.

Fiona McNulty addressed the importance of firms and senior lawyers not just having fair policies for female lawyers, but also being willing to model behaviour. For example, showing it’s okay to have a family and okay to have work life balance. She also spoke about the importance of networks like the IWLA and highlighted how important it is for policies to be in place and in the knowledge of the women who work at these workplaces.

Demilade Adeniran spoke about how junior women can have a seat at the table, that it’s okay to be ambitious and how joining networks like the IWLA can be great for having people who you can call on to champion you setting out that the IWLA is open to barristers and to solicitors.
